Steve Williams

Steve formerly held a senior rank in the Corps of Royal Engineers and worked on all aspects of field engineering including the use of chainsaws and recovery winch systems. He still holds the World Record in bridge building over an 8m gap set in 1998.  His latter career as a bomb disposal officer focused his attention to detail and meticulous planning.. Since leaving the army after a full 23 year career, Steve retrained as a tree surgeon. The rigorous standards that he used to apply to the Regiment have been directly applied to Hawkes Tree Services Ltd. Steve holds the following arboricultural qualifications: City & Guilds CS30: Maintenance of chainsaw and cross cutting; CS31: Fell and process trees; CS38: Climb a tree and conduct aerial rescue; CS39: Use of a chainsaw from rope and harness; CS40: Carry out pruning operations; CS41: Undertake sectional felling techniques; CS48: Powered pole pruner; PA1: Pesticide foundation module; PA6: Hand-held applicators; LANTRA: Stump grinder; LANTRA: Wood chipper; LANTRA: Brushcutter; LANTRA: Basic tree survey and inspection; IPAF: Mobile elevating work platform operator; Signing, lighting and guarding; Rough terrain telescopic lift truck.
Mike Smith – Team Leader
Mike joined us recently after a full career in the Army.    An experienced climber, Mike leads the team on most tree operations. Mike holds the following arboricultural qualifications: City & Guilds CS30: Maintenance of chainsaw and cross cutting; CS31: Fell and process trees; CS38: Climb a tree and conduct aerial rescue; CS39: Use of a chainsaw from rope and harness; LANTRA Woodchipper: Stump grinder; LANTRA: Wood chipper.
Alex Roebuck- Lead Climber
Alex is our lead climber and is a natural talent in a tree. He is a very experienced climber having worked in Canada and overseas . Alex carries out the bulk of our climbing operations. He holds the following qualifications: City & Guilds CS30: Maintenance of chainsaw and cross cutting; CS31: Fell and process trees; CS38: Climb a tree and conduct aerial rescue; CS39: Use of a chainsaw from rope and harness; LANTRA Woodchipper.

Mary Gentilhomme supports HTS on the admin side, providing a key link between customers and the team.  Nobody likes speaking to answer phones and Mary is always there to speak to customers personally, to help them with their enquiries and ensure that if she is unable to help, a message will be passed to Steve for his attention on his return to the office.  Mary is proprietor of MJG Business & Office Support Solutions and works remotely from her offices on the Essex/Suffolk border.  MJG provides business and office support solutions to business organisations – from typing of reports, presentations, audio transcriptions, database management and mailmerges through to offering remote Virtual Assistance to clients needing a reliable, professional and pro-active approach to managing and running their office administration remotely.
